February 03 The New Message Board seems to be working Ok but I'm very behind with the reports on the main site. I've been overwhelmed with the number of people that have signed up to the new system. Its been rather time consuming sorting everything. The first thing of course is to find how everything works over there. It's different of course, after all the old MSN system was the best part of 15 years old and things have moved on. I think I have got a fair handle on it now but need to pass on a few tips to the members. One of the big issues is that on the message board itself the posts are ordered by the date the thread were initiated. Subsequent additions to the thread (called comments) don't push a post back up the list. To see the latest comment contributions you need to go to your inbox. Which you can only do if you are a member, so there are benefits of joining even for lurkers! All this has meant no work on the Exter and Clee reports. Hope I can get back to these later in the week. January 31 The New Message Board is Underway Well its underway. Big shout out for all the support, especially from Andrew and Simon. Just a reminder, its still a real names affair. If you don't use your real name as your user ID so I can work out who you are I have to goto through the rigmarole of trying to find out and then entering your details on a list showing real names against nicknames. I have a bout half a dozen where I am stumped so if you have applied to join the group and I have not let you in you need to get in touch with your real name. Michael Message Board Migration will start this evening Friday 30 Jan at 21.00. Please don't log on after then until you get the green light here.I am not sure how long the process will take. Probably all the weekend as once the data has been successfully migrated I have some re-configuration to do. members will probably receive an automated email from the new system hosts inviting you to log on. Please don't do that until you get the green light message from www.classictrials.co.uk Also please don't log on or post messages to the old system during this time. The backup of thr Message Board to Aimoo appears to have been successful Thats good. The plan is to use this is an emergency archive. Now to proceed with the migration of the active board to Multiply. Probably in the next day or so. January 27 Making a backup of the present mesage board to Aimoo before the migration to Multiply Been reading about this. Plan is still to migrate to Multiply but having a backup, as offered by Aimoo, seems a good idea. January 26 The Message Board is on the move. Microsoft are closing the present system on 21 February. I will be migrating all the messages and photos to MultiplyThe reason for choosing Multiply as that Microsoft have set up a migration path. There is too much good stuff on the existing system to loose. And it will be lost if I don't move it by 21 February.
You will see a few changes to the Message Board home page as I need to clean it up before the migration.
Multiply will be different to what we have been used to. A bit more like Facebook. However, it does offer the facility to transfer the existing messages and photos. On an on-going basis it will allow members to post unlimited pictures and videos.
Please bear with me while I set it all up.
Michael October 24 The Future of The Classical Gas Message BoardMicrosoft will no longer support MSN Groups from February 2009. My plan is to migrate all the data (all messages and pictures) from The Classical Gas Message Board into another system so you can continue to use the service as you have done for the last ten years and hopefully it will be better.
