Going to have to do some reorganisation on the main sites home page

The home page on the main site is pretty slow to load. I think I knew this myself but thanks to Andrew and Simon for the heads up. Moving the Just Giving and Twitter widgets has certainly helped but its still not as quick as it should be. Sitting here with my MacBook and tea during my morning constitutional on the throne I can see that the main issue appears to be the three main external feeds. The two Feedzilla inputs from this blog and Twitter and also the Calendar which comes from Google. So next week I think I will have to drop at least the live feeds from Blog and Twitter.

There are off course the YouTube feeds as well but I will try and keep them at this stage.

This will have to wait till mid week as I'm off to Bovey Woods for the trial this weekend and then Tuesday I have to have a meeting for the day job, which may be coming to an end. Hey it will give me the opportunity to get an iPhone Hot

Problems with Front Page which means I can't update the main site

The plan was to work on the March Hare report this morning. However, there are problems with Front Page, the program I use to author the site, consequently until thats sorted, and I have no idea how to do it, I can't do any updates. Bit brain dead with it at the moment.

The plan will be to start to publish some stuff here on the blog.

Not Quite got the First Christmas Quiz Question right yet!

You are collectively so nearly, nearly there. In the tradition of Round Britian Quiz its time for me to give you a clue to the one bit missing. The original builder of the car hasn't been mentioned. L O-B certainly inspired this particular car, and supplied many of the bits, but this isn't his car! The original owner was the main builder in 1947 and subsequently re-bodied as a "sports car" as shown in the quiz photo. After the picture was taken todays owner had a new "trials" body made. So back to the archive chaps

Added a new quote to the main page

Classical Gas about Classic Trials by Michael Leete

Regulars will have discovered that The Classical Gas Editorial Team are rather fond of Raymond Chandler!

The books are great but even better are the BBC Radio Plays, starring Ed Bishop as Philip Marlowe. If you follow this link, Click here, and click on listen, you can hear a sample, including that wonderful interchange between Marlowe and Vivian Regan.

The Bogart and Bacall movie is quite well known but doesn't remain faithful to Chandlers plot, especially at the end. The whole point of The Big Sleep is that Carmen Sternwood killed Rusty Regan, but not in Bogart and Bacall! The 80's version with Robert Mitchum is more faithful and has some wonderful surprises!

Have you been following the interesting thread on Class Three Eligibility over on the Message Board?

If you haven't its worth reading but please don't make any more posts as I don't want it to get heated!

Had to remove the comment facility from the blog but you can still post messages in the guestbook

Unfortunately the comment facility has attracted a lot of spam in the last week. Mostly advertising so if you need Viagra I suggest you go to Boots! I can delete comments but wading through more than a hundred and deleting them one by one is not my idea of fun so I have removed the facility to coment on individual posts. You can still post messages in the guestbook though.

RSS Feed from the Blog returns to the main site

I have restored an RSS feed from the blog to the main site. Just checked it. It does slow the page loading down a bit but I will let it run for a while and see what happens. Previously when I have included RSS feeds it has slowed loading down so much I had a lot of complaints.

The advantage of using the blog with the feed is that I can get things up on the main site very quickly, from any computer, even using a mobile phone, without the hassle of being tied to my cranky old desktop (that will be eligible for class 2 soon) and then having to use another program to upload the files.

    Problem on the main site

www.classictrials.co.uk is down at the moment. The problem is on the ISP's server. They know about it and are working on it.
