David Howard holds off Steve Primett to win second Post Historic Race

David Howard made a great start to lead the field into turn one, followed by the Escort RS2000's of Jason Christie and Steve Primett, who was slow away.  Steve quickly recovered, slipping past Jason on the infield. He slowly came closer to David on the twisty bits but could not get by.

Phil Waller, who had done sterling work to rebuild the Avenger that was written off at Brands into a new shell, spun as he came off the oval onto the infield but managed to restart.

Behind the leading trio Tony Crudgington spun his Dolomite but recovered to maintain his place. He was followed by Mark Osborne in his similar car after he passed James Christie who was having a good race in his Avenger. Vetran Al Weyman then started to challenge James with his glorious Camaro, before surcoming to gear selection problems, which saw him pass through the pit lane before continuing.

Just as the race drew to a close Steve passed David in the infield to take the lead. Wanting at least one trophy on the mantlepiece David gritted his teeth to repass David and take the flag on the last race of the day.

Jim McLoughlin wins closeley fought second Group 1 race

Jim McLouglin powered into the lead again, perused by Steve Cripps (Escort RS2000 Mk2) and Richard Austin in his Alan Daffin prepared Capri. Steve had a moment coming onto the infield and was overtaken by Richard and Tim Scott-Andrews (Rover Vitesse). Steve quickly got his black Escort past Tims Rover, but the Faberge liveried Capri was another proposition as Richard was closing on the leader.

David Howard (Jaguar XJ12) was recovering from a slow start and was closing on the leading quartet, drawing Roger Stanford (BMW 2002) with him. By lap four the top six were pretty much line astern. David Howard slipped by Tim Scott Andrews into fourth and was soon third when Steve had a moment on the infield, ending up facing the wrong way before getting going in sixth just ahead of Matt Irons (BMW 2.3).

Up in front Jim, Richard and David were covered by a postage stamp, with Jim slipping and sliding in his efforts to defend his lead.
Richard couldn't get past Jims very wide Capri who was relieved when the checquered flag was finally waved. David Howard was third, ahead of Roger Stanford who had passed Tim Scott Andrews towards the end. Steve Cripps was sixth, ahead of Matt Irons and William Jenkins whose BMW 3.0 CSL was sonding a bit better but was still not right.

Neil Bray was next in the 1300 Fiesta, comfortably in front of Richard Langveld in his Weber side draught engined Escort RS 2000 and Ken Selfe (Mk 3 Escort). With the Fiesta holding its water during the first race Neil felt comfortable giving the Fiesta its head in this race and was pulled away from the other two as the race went on, aided by Ken's Escort going flat towards the end.

Steve Primett just holds off David Howard to win Red Flagged first Post Historic Race

David Howard made a fine start in his Jaguar XJ12 to lead the Escort RS2000's of Steve Primett and Jason Christie around turn one of the oval. Once it came to the infield section the more nimble Fords started to harry the big Jag and finally Steve slipped by on the third lap, pulling away round the infield  to build a lead that David could not make up on the oval section. David was under pressure from Jason, and Mark Osborne in his familiar Dolomite Sprint and all three were closing on Steve when Len Allgood had his gearbox sieze solid, stranding the RS2000 in a vunerable position and bringing out the red flag.

Tony Crudgington had a loneley run behind this leading quartet but there were battles galore back down the field. James Christie mangaed to use the agility of his Avenger to hold off Al Weymans Camaro around the infield while Phil Waller (Avenger), Tony Crates (Lotus Cortina) and Peter Holton (Rover P6) were locked in their own private duel for most of the race. It was very nice to see Phil out so quickly after his horrific shunt at Brands only two weks ago. Good job he had a spare shell!

Jim McLoughlin wins 1st Grp1 race

Jim McLoughlin led away from pole position round the banked first turn. Steve Cripps followed but as they turned off the oval into the infield he was overtaken by David Howard, up from his third row starting position.

Steve repassed David round the back of the circuit and so did Richard Austin in the Faberge liveried Capri, relegating David to fourth.

These four steadily pulled away from Roger Standord and Tim Scott Andrews with Tim getting past the BMW to take fifth by the flag.

Then came Tony Scott Andrews in a very rough sounding Rover, Matt Irons and an equally rough BMW 3.0 CSL of William Jenkins.

Behind them there was a race long battle between Ken Selfe, Richard Langeveld and Neil Bray. It may have been for last place but it certainly got the comentator excited. Neil spent the race worrying about his water leak but had the beating of the bigger engined cars around the infield, only to loose out when they came onto the oval.

David Howard pips Jim McLouglin on the line for Group 1 win

David Howard led away from the line, followed by Jim McLoughlin and Mark Fowler, who changed to a different ratio back axle after qualifying. Jim soon squezed past David for the lead and the two pulled steadily away from Mark who spent the race a loneley third.

David spent the rest of the race trying to squeeze past Jim, to no avail, until the last lap when he pulled alongside on the exit from Clearways and just got his nose ahead just before the line. Brian Stevens was fourth after battles with Steve Cripps and Tim Scott Andrews. Steve dropper back when his engine went off song and Tim spun although he recovered to sixth, behind Roger Stanford who had a quiet race.

Neil finished in fourteeth place, keeping the 1300 Firsta in front of a few more powerful cars.

David Howard wins Incident marred Post Historic

Steve Primett got the jump on David Howard at the start to head the field into Paddock. They were followed by Brian Stevens and a hard charging Mark Osborne. David's Jag is really flying after it's recent engine rebuild and powered by Steve on the start finish straight.

By half way the order was Howard Primett Stevens Osborne Crudgington. Then came Jeff Orford on the ex David Howard RS 2000. This had been going well until the engine went off rounding Paddock. Jeff continued round the Druids hairpin and Graham Hill Bend before pulling off the circuit on the Cooper Straight Unfortunately Phil Waller came round Graham Hill in his Avenger just as the RS was pulling off. They collided, severely damaging both cars.

There was another incident at this time when John Wright tapped William Jenkins as they rounded Druids leaving William facing the wrong waybefore restarting

Up front the leaders maintained their positions. Steve was trying all he knew with spectaclar slides round Paddock but could make no imression on Davids comfortable lead. Interest shifted to a battle between James Christie, John Wright, Alan Weyman, Mark Aistrup and a raidly recovering William Jenkins. Bythe flag it was John Wright in front, followed by Al who had the crowd behind him.

Tom Lailey De Ville wins Classic & Historic

David Hall powered off the line in his Lotus Cortina with Roger Stanford just behind in his similar machine. These two started to build a lead over the Anglias of Richard Sprigg and Tom LIley De Ville.

After three or four laps David Hall pulled away from Roger who steadily fell into the clutches of the Anglias. By half distance Tom was really flying and steadily made his way into a lead he was not to lose.

Craig probably had the faster car but Roger got away first and had a very wide BMW that always seemed to be on the piece of track that Craig would liketo use.
